A Little Light Exercise (open)

Who ever heard of a gymnasium for Duel Monsters? When Jonas heard that, he got images of monsters running laps and using free weights. Instead, it turned out to just be a place for the duelists. Jonas decided it would probably be a good idea to check the place out, but he brought his deck with him, just in case.

Inside, he saw a lot of people dueling, getting ready to duel, comparing decks, and generally lots of things related to Duel Monsters. "Ah," Jonas muttered, "So that was what he was talking about." Making a mental note to tell his roommate to make his sentences clearer, Jonas wandered into the room hesitantly.

While the teacher would rather have been in the library, it was his duty to ensure the gymnasium was being used properly. "If your names aren't on the sign-up sheet, I'm afraid I need you to move off the floor. The dueling arena is booked for today."

What? Jonas was pulled from his inspection of his deck by the sound of the teacher. Sign up sheet? Well yes, Jonas vaguely remembered signing something when he came in. Was that what it was? He had figured it was just a record for security purposes.

Unsure of himself, he stepped onto the dueling platform. Something was about to happen, and it was probably nothing pleasant. Just his luck for being so unattentive.

"Defalk?" He called out. "Defalk, are you here?" Just then one of the other students came up to the teacher. Informing him that the boy hadn't been feeling good so he left. Finally he shrugged, and walked up to Jonas, was the last name on the list.

"Any objections to dueling a teacher?"

Of course, he was firmly under the impression that he had no choice, having been led here by unfortunate circumstances. Still, one did not sign up for Duel Academy to sit in one's room and read books.

Readying his Duel Disk, he drew the required handful of cards. "After you, sir?" he offered in a breathless voice.

"I play Silver Fang, in attack mode, and place one card face down." The holo emitters hummed, as the beast-type monster appeared on the field, along with the outline of a face down card. "And I end my turn."

"I..." He cleared his throat, unused to having to declare his moves. "I play one card in face down Defense mode and end my turn."

Jonas flinched, until he remembered he had nothing to worry about. As the beast charged, the face-down card revealed itself as the Ogre of Black Shadow. (DEF:1400) While they met in battle, the ogre didn't budge an inch, and his Life Points remained intact.

Jonas sighed, drawing a card and looking over his hand. "I... I play one monster... face down... Defense mode. No other actions this turn." It was timid, yes, but every inch the defensive strategy. Without making too many moves, he reduced the chance of tripping traps and the like.

Perhaps it was time Jonas got a bit more proactive. "I play one magic card face down, and then a monster in face-down Defense mode. That's my turn."
