Who ever heard of a gymnasium for Duel Monsters? When Jonas heard that, he got images of monsters running laps and using free weights. Instead, it turned out to just be a place for the duelists. Jonas decided it would probably be a good idea to check the place out, but he brought his deck with him, just in case.

Inside, he saw a lot of people dueling, getting ready to duel, comparing decks, and generally lots of things related to Duel Monsters. "Ah," Jonas muttered, "So that was what he was talking about." Making a mental note to tell his roommate to make his sentences clearer, Jonas wandered into the room hesitantly.

((OOC: You still interested in RPing this?))

"Alright everyone!" Arthur Gemthrine called out, getting the attention of all the students present. While the teacher would rather have been in the library, it was his duty to ensure the gymnasium was being used properly. "If your names aren't on the sign-up sheet, I'm afraid I need you to move off the floor. The dueling arena is booked for today."

((OOC: Sure.))

What? Jonas was pulled from his inspection of his deck by the sound of the teacher. Sign up sheet? Well yes, Jonas vaguely remembered signing something when he came in. Was that what it was? He had figured it was just a record for security purposes.

Unsure of himself, he stepped onto the dueling platform. Something was about to happen, and it was probably nothing pleasant. Just his luck for being so unattentive.

Arthur then paired up the various people on the sign up sheet. Only to end up with an odd number of duelists.

"Defalk?" He called out. "Defalk, are you here?" Just then one of the other students came up to the teacher. Informing him that the boy hadn't been feeling good so he left. Finally he shrugged, and walked up to Jonas, was the last name on the list.

"Any objections to dueling a teacher?"

"Um..." Jonas had one of those non-existent voices that always failed to make an impression on people. "N-no, no objection, sir." Of course, he was firmly under the impression that he had no choice, having been led here by unfortunate circumstances. Still, one did not sign up for Duel Academy to sit in one's room and read books.

Readying his Duel Disk, he drew the required handful of cards. "After you, sir?" he offered in a breathless voice.

"Very well." Arthur replied with a slight smile, as he activated his red duel disk, and drew cards. After looking over his hand, he nodded.

"I play Silver Fang, in attack mode, and place one card face down." The holo emitters hummed, as the beast-type monster appeared on the field, along with the outline of a face down card. "And I end my turn."

Jonas looked over his hand critically. All of his cards had their proper useage, but the best card to use at this moment.

"I..." He cleared his throat, unused to having to declare his moves. "I play one card in face down Defense mode and end my turn."

"Very well." Arthur replied, drawing a card then looking over his hand. He finally nodded and picked a card and set it down on the field. "I summon The Mad Sword Beast in attack mode, it will then attack your face down monster."

Jonas flinched, until he remembered he had nothing to worry about. As the beast charged, the face-down card revealed itself as the Ogre of Black Shadow. (DEF:1400) While they met in battle, the ogre didn't budge an inch, and his Life Points remained intact.

"Not bad. I set a card, and end my turn." Arthur replied. He had 2 monsters on the field, with two cards in his spell/trap zone. But leaving him with only 3 cards in his hand.

Jonas sighed, drawing a card and looking over his hand. "I... I play one monster... face down... Defense mode. No other actions this turn." It was timid, yes, but every inch the defensive strategy. Without making too many moves, he reduced the chance of tripping traps and the like.

"I activate the Trap Card, Shadow of Eye. Put the card you just played into attack position, and if it has a flip effect it doesn't activate." Ralis replied, as soon as Jonas played his monster.

"Nngh...!" Jonas winced visibly. He had no defense against that Trap. And he had been treading so carefully, too. "You got me. Spirit of the Harp..."

The monster revealed itself as the harp-wielding woman (ATK:800).

"A good defensive monster." Arthur complimented the boy. The teacher drew his next card, and nodded. "Mad Sword Beast attacks your Spirit of the Harp. (1400 atk vs 800 atk= 600 dmg) And I will end my turn."

"Whoof!" Jonas's breathy exhalation sounded almost like a punch to the gut. He drew another card. So it seemed the teached had a backlog of magic available. Perhaps it was time Jonas got a bit more proactive. "I play one magic card face down, and then a monster in face-down Defense mode. That's my turn."

Arthur drew another card, then nodded. "I activate the continuous Spell Card, Banner of Courage. When my monsters attack, they gain 200 extra attack points."

That threw another variable at Jonas, certainly, but at the moment he could pose no counter. He motioned for a continuation.

Arthur Nodded. "I offer Silver Fang as tribute, in order to summon the Flame Champion. (1900/1300)." He then stopped, again, allowing the student a moment to respond.

Jonas didn't waver, even though he clearly wanted to. As long as his defense held firm... he motioned for the teacher to continue.

"Very well. Flame Champion will attack your face down monster, Banner of Courage will increase his attack to 2100. Meanwhile, Mad Sword Beast will attack your Ogre, with a raised attack power of 1600. Oh and he has the Pierce special ability."
